The 20th century changed the status of a woman, and social roles available to perform. For example, in Poland, the women obtained a right to vote just after reclaiming independence. In European countries it took less time to obtain political rights, in some countries more. With political rights came the desire for liberation, that is liberating from the "3K" stereotypical roles (church, kitchen, children). Nowadays, the women are competitive, they can pursue personal success as much as they never could before.
The positive aspect of this fact is that it increases the efficiency of a society as a whole. A person best suited for a specific job is being chosen, prejudices as sex, race, ... are less and less frequently being taken into account. Some may however argue, that the womens liberation leads to the diminishing power of family, a basic social group. More and more people are choosing a career-oriented life, which leads to a step fall of the growth rates. However, there are voices, that we shouldnt attribute the diminishing power of a family to womens liberation, the overgrowth of a welfare state is rather the real cause. Social benefits and pensions makes having children unnecessary to live a good life when retired. There are of course two ways to cope the problem - we can make the welfare state introduce pro-growth policies or reduce the state's intervention and leave everything to people's free choices.
To summarize - I dont quite agree with the statement presented in the title. I, despite of being a man, think, that women's liberation has done much good to the society and to the personal lives of women as well. I do believe , that the problems with low growth rates will be overcome in the future - this way or another.
